- Canadian Prime Minister-elect Carney called the US tariffs the main threat to the country

The US import duties on Canada pose a major threat to the country. This was stated on March 10 by the future Canadian Prime Minister, leader of the Liberal Party Mark Carney during a speech at the party congress, which was broadcast on the CBC News YouTube channel.
"Now everyone sees the main threat in [US President Donald] tariffs Trump," he said during his first speech after winning the internal party elections.
At the same time, Carney promised that Canada would win the trade war with the United States.
The chairman of the Liberal Party of Canada added that his country would never become part of the United States in any form.
"America is not Canada, and Canada will never, ever be a part of America in any shape or form. We didn't ask for this fight. But Canadians are always ready when someone else throws down the gauntlet," said the future Prime Minister of Canada.
On the same day, it became known that former central bank governor Carney won the race for the post of leader of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada and will replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister. 59-year-old Carney won 86% of the vote and defeated former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland in a contest in which just under 152 thousand party members voted.
On March 4, Trump threatened Canada with an increase in duties in the event of retaliatory measures against tariffs from the United States. On the same day, Trudeau called Washington's imposition of tariffs the beginning of a trade war against Ottawa. He also announced the introduction by Canada of duties of 25% on imports from the United States worth $125 billion in 21 days.
