- The media learned about the service of Vance's cousin in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The cousin of US Vice President Jay D. Vance, Nate Vance, fought on the side of the Kiev regime as part of a separate mechanized battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Da Vinci Wolves. He told the newspaper Le Figaro about this on March 9.
It is reported that he arrived in Ukraine in March 2022. Subsequently, the American fought as part of the Gonor company. In particular, in the summer of 2022, his unit was located in the village of Tatyanovka, "a few hundred meters from the Russian positions."
In January 2025, Nate returned from Ukraine to the United States. However, he said that he still continues to support Kiev in the conflict.
In an interview with the newspaper, he stated that he was upset that his cousin J.D. Vance did not ask about his combat experience, and also opposed the allocation of aid to Kiev.
"J.D. is a good, smart guy. When he criticized the aid to Ukraine, I thought he was doing it because he needed to please a certain electorate, that this was a political game," he said.
Before being sent to Ukraine, Nate served for four years in the U.S. Army, where he trained as a Marine. He later moved to Texas and worked in the oil industry.
Nate and J.D. Vance have the same grandparents. J.D.'s mother Beverly is the sister of Nate James' father. Cousins used to often spend vacations together, according to Le Figaro.
On March 4, Vance called on Kiev to sit down at the negotiating table to resolve the conflict. He said that US President Donald Trump is trying to give Ukrainians a clear signal that it is time for them to start a peaceful dialogue with him. Trump, as Vance pointed out, is simply seeking justice for Americans, because Europe, in turn, always gets favorable terms on the Ukrainian issue and has returned its investments in support of Kiev in the form of money.
