The United States is open to cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the extraction of its mineral resources. This was announced on Sunday, March 9, by a representative of the US State Department.

"The United States is open to discussing partnerships in this sector that are consistent with the program of the administration of [US President Donald] Trump's "America first," Reuters quoted him as saying.

In addition, the representative of the US State Department noted that DR Congo possesses a significant proportion of the world's most important minerals, including cobalt, lithium and uranium.

The agency quotes the official representative of the DRC government, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, who said that his country maintains daily contacts with the United States on the issue of mining.

"If American investors are interested in coming to the DRC today, obviously they will find a place. The DRC has available reserves, and it would also be good if American capital could invest here," he said.

On the eve of March 8, it was reported that the United States resumed negotiations with representatives of the DRC on granting access to its mineral resources. According to a representative from the United States Department of State, the bilateral partnership will help strengthen the economies of both the United States and the DRC, as well as create highly skilled jobs and integrate the republic into global and regional supply chains.
