Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan conducted operational and preventive measures, during which they found more than 30 caches of weapons and ammunition in the country, seizing them. The agency announced this on March 9.
"During the three days of the operation, police officers discovered more than 30 caches and caches, 360 units of various firearms, 12 grenades and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from illegal traffic," said Kanat Nurmagambetov, head of the criminal police department of the Interior Ministry, quoted on the ministry's website.
He noted that six of these items were considered stolen, and four were stolen during the riots in January 2022. In addition, the police seized six weapons that had been lost earlier. Citizens voluntarily handed over another 14 units during the operation.
The Interior Ministry added that law enforcement officers had identified 120 facts of illegal possession of weapons and brought to justice 200 violators of the law. The Ministry recalled that Kazakhstan provides for exemption from any punishment if a citizen voluntarily surrenders to the police a weapon that is illegally stored in his possession.
Earlier, on February 4, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported that 2,960 service and civilian weapons were stolen during the riots that took place in the country in January 2022. At the same time, in January 2025, a cache of guns and ammunition was discovered on the outskirts of Shymkent, and three Kalashnikov assault rifles were found in the basement of a resident of Kostanay region. In total, over the past three years, Kazakh law enforcement officers have found 8,000 hidden firearms, 831 grenades and over 112,000 different cartridges during raids and searches.
