- Sobyanin congratulated Moscow schoolchildren on their success at the Programming Olympiad

Moscow schoolchildren are among the best programmers in the country: in the finals of the Open Programming Olympiad, young residents of the capital showed excellent results and received 59 diplomas, 21 of them first degree, 18 second and 20 third. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.
According to him, this year almost 500 students from Russia and Belarus participated in the Olympiad, including more than 180 Muscovites. "To reach the finals, they solved complex problems, wrote code in C++ and other programming languages," the mayor recalled in his Telegram channel. "The finals were held in Moscow, Lipetsk and the Sirius Educational Center, and some participants competed remotely."
The winners of the Open Olympiad "receive benefits upon admission to universities, and the level of tasks of the competition is comparable to the final of the All-Russian Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Computer Science," Sobyanin stressed.
He also pointed out that all conditions are being created in Moscow for the professional growth of future IT specialists. In particular, there are engineering and IT classes, clubs and educational programs on AI in the city. In addition, the Center for Pedagogical Excellence trains the national team of the capital, which participates in major competitions, Sobyanin recalled.
In January, the mayor said that Moscow schoolchildren had won 57% of the medals won by the Russian national team at the international Olympiads in 2024. According to Sobyanin, students from Moscow brought home 24 medals: 19 gold, three silver and two bronze. At the same time, at the geography and biology competitions, all the gold awards of the Russian team belong to the participants from the capital. "At three more Olympiads — in chemistry, computer science and astronomy — the share of gold that Muscovites won was 75% or more," Sobyanin said, noting that the support of parents and talented teachers helped students achieve high results.
