Wanting to lose weight, many people resort to the method of dieting and dietary restrictions. Irina Russ, a specialist in preventive and anti-age medicine, an endocrinologist at the European Medical Center, told Gazeta about common mistakes in weight loss.Ru».

Fasting on a diet increases the risk of "falling off", which will lead to the restoration of hard-lost weight, a spoiled mood and a decrease in motivation to lose weight further.

"Another mistake is ignoring physical activity or excessive exercise without recovery. Losing weight without exercise, especially strength training, leads to the loss of not only fat, but also muscle mass, which slows down the metabolism," the expert warned.

Excessive exercise for several hours a day can also lead to chronic stress and increased cortisol levels. This will only slow down the weight loss process and lead to overeating.

Another mistake was an insufficient estimate of the caloric content of a particular food product. Moreover, it is important to take into account not only the total number of calories, but also to pay attention to the balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in food.

"It is worth paying attention to the composition of the food, because the calorie content may be normal, but there is a lot of sugar and fast carbohydrates. If most of the diet consists of simple carbohydrates (sweet, flour), this provokes sharp spikes in blood glucose levels, which is especially critical for people with insulin resistance. Due to such jumps, appetite increases, cravings for sweets increase, and the body accumulates fat," the endocrinologist noted.

On March 2, the surgeon spoke about the consequences of uncontrolled use of weight loss pills. Drug therapy can be an auxiliary tool in the fight against obesity, but its use should be strictly regulated by specialists. Prescribing medications should be based on individual indications, taking into account the patient's health status and potential risks.
