The expert spoke about the risks of using low-quality batteries

When buying batteries, you should consider how many important factors that will help you choose a quality product. Alexey Yurasov, Professor of the Department of Nanoelectronics at RTU MIREA, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, warned about the dangers of using defective batteries during an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
"The battery capacity, specified in milliampere-hours (mAh), determines the duration of their operation: the higher the mAh value, the longer the battery will last. Always check the date of manufacture and the expiration date of the batteries, as expired products can lose a significant part of their capacity and even cause corrosion of the metal contacts," he advised.
You should also pay attention to the quality of the product packaging. So, conscientious manufacturers always choose high-quality and reliable packaging for their products, which protects the batteries from damage.
"Substandard batteries can not only disappoint you with their short-term operation, but also pose serious threats to your equipment and even your health. When using such batteries, there is a risk of fire, explosion, corrosion of metal contacts and damage to devices," said the professor.
Store purchased batteries in a cool and dry place away from heat sources. It is also worth making sure that they will not be exposed to direct sunlight.
"It should also be taken into account that the use of low-quality batteries can increase emissions of harmful substances into the environment. For example, lithium-ion batteries contain toxic elements that, if improperly disposed of, can pollute soil and water," concluded Alexey Yurasov.
You can, for example, take expired batteries to special collection points that can be found in a number of stores. This way, the negative impact of their components on the environment and ecology can be avoided.
Earlier, on March 7, the chemist spoke about the possible negative impact on the health of stationery markers. Low-quality markers may contain harmful chemicals such as toluene, xylene, and benzene in the ink. These compounds belong to the class of aromatic hydrocarbons and are known for their toxicity. They can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and other poisoning symptoms.
