Alexander Miroshnichenko, head of the Alpha Group Veterans Association, has died.

The head of the Association of veterans of the Alpha anti-terrorist group, retired Colonel-General Alexander Miroshnichenko, died at the age of 72. The organization announced his death on March 8.

"On March 8, 2025, the president of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha Antiterrorism Unit, retired Colonel-General Alexander Miroshnichenko, died suddenly," the website of the veterans' association says.

It is indicated that the general was elected president of the organization in March 2023. The association noted his contribution to the creation of the museum of the special forces, perpetuating the memory of the fallen employees and helping their families, as well as to humanitarian projects related to the special operation in Ukraine. In addition, Miroshnichenko actively represented the Alpha veterans association at all levels of government, the association emphasized.

The future general was accepted into the "A" group of the KGB of the USSR during the second recruitment in 1978. Subsequently, Miroshnichenko participated in a number of unit operations, including the capture of the palace of the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council of Afghanistan, Hafizullah Amin, in 1979, the storming of the White House in Moscow in 1993, the hostage rescue in Budennovsk in 1995 and the Dubrovka Theater Complex in 2002.

In 1998-1999, the officer headed Department "A" of the FSB of Russia, and in 1999-2007 he served as Chief of staff of the Special Purpose Center of this service.

After his resignation, Miroshnichenko became vice-governor of the Tver Region, and in 2010 he was appointed Assistant Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The general was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, two Orders of Courage and a number of other state awards of Russia and the USSR.
