Orban announced the signing of a strategic agreement with the United States

Hungary and the United States will sign a strategic agreement and an agreement on economic cooperation after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on March 8 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"After the end of the <conflict> in Ukraine, a strategic alliance will be concluded between the United States and Hungary <...> and a package of economic cooperation agreements will be adopted that will help the Hungarian economy," he said at the Economic Results 2025 press conference broadcast on YouTube.
The Prime Minister clarified that Budapest needs economic cooperation with Washington to limit the impact of the possible imposition of US duties against the European Union (EU). According to him, the member countries of the bloc will suffer losses in a possible trade war, and the agreement may help Hungary.
At the end of February, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose customs duties of 25% on the European Union not only on cars, but also on "everything else." The European Commission's press service clarified that the bloc intends to respond decisively to the tariff changes promised by the American leader.
