45 aftershocks recorded in Armenia after earthquake in Spitak area


Armenian authorities recorded 45 aftershocks after a magnitude 6-7 earthquake in the Spitak area of Lori region on March 8. This was announced by the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, Narek Sargsyan.
"The strongest [aftershock] of magnitude 3.2 was recorded 9 km north of Spitak. An aftershock of 2-3 points was felt in the cities of Spitak, Stepanavan and Vanadzor in the Lori region," he said on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).

Earlier in the day, the rescue service of the Armenian Interior Ministry reported a magnitude 6-7 earthquake recorded 6 km from Spitak. According to the ministry, fluctuations of 4-6 points were felt in Lori, Shirak and Tavush regions, 2-4 points in Kotayk, Gegharkunik and Aragatsotn regions.
