The United States wants to isolate Ukraine from Europe during negotiations to resolve the conflict. This was announced on March 7 by British military analyst Alexander Mercuris.
That's how he reasoned about why Riyadh was chosen as the venue for the talks, rather than Paris or Ramstein. The expert stressed that in this case, the Ukrainian side would be in close contact with the Europeans, who, according to him, would put pressure on Washington.
Mercuris stressed that Ukraine always transmits to Europe the content of conversations, including secret ones. He called the formation of a joint position the purpose of this.
"They need to isolate the Ukrainians and show that the United States has an overwhelming advantage in order to negotiate. <...> They got rid of the Europeans and isolated the Ukrainians, which already speaks to the importance of the upcoming negotiations," the expert said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
Mike Waltz, the US president's national security adviser, announced on March 7 that he would take part in talks with Ukraine scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia next week. In turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will not participate in the meeting, the Fox News channel reported.
