The fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Karelo-Finnish Republic is celebrated on March 31, 1945. This is reported by the newspaper Izvestia.
"Five years ago, on March 31, 1940, the session of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, meeting the wishes of the workers of Karelia and guided by the Stalinist Constitution, adopted the law on the transformation of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic into the Union Karelo-Finnish SSR. This date is inscribed in golden letters in the history of our republic," the newspaper said in a March 31, 1945 publication.
There were exactly 39 days left until the Great Victory.
The date of the republic's creation recalls the triumph of the Leninist-Stalinist national policy, the indestructible fraternal friendship of the peoples of the Soviet Union. The history of the Karelo-Finnish Republic is the history of the work and struggle of the Karelian people for the prosperity of the region, the publication emphasizes.
