On March 24, the troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, having repelled attacks by 11 German tank divisions southwest of Budapest and exhausted them in defensive battles, went on the offensive, defeated an enemy tank group and advanced 70 km on a front more than 100 km long, according to a publication in the Izvestia newspaper.
"During the offensive, our troops captured the cities of Szekesfehervar, Mor, Zirez, Veszprem, Enying, and also occupied more than 350 other settlements," the newspaper reports.

In these battles, the front's troops captured more than 6,000 enemy soldiers and officers, destroyed and captured 745 tanks and self-propelled guns, over 800 guns and many other weapons and military equipment.
