In the United States, for the first time in 15 years, a criminal sentenced to death was shot. This was reported on Saturday, March 8, by NBC News with reference to the Department of Corrections of the state of South Carolina.
"The death sentence of Brad Keith Sigmon was carried out tonight. The execution was carried out by a firing squad of three people at 18:05 (2:05 Moscow time. — Ed.)," the ministry said.
Three minutes later, the medical officer pronounced the convict dead.
Sigmon chose this way of taking his own life. He was sentenced to death for a double murder in 2002. The dead were relatives of his ex-girlfriend, whom he also tried to kidnap.
The execution of Sigmon's sentence was announced on February 21. It was claimed that 67-year-old Sigmon would be tied to a chair, a hood would be put on his head, and a target would be placed on his heart in the death chamber. Three volunteers will shoot at him at a distance of about 4.6 m.
