Belgium has proposed to produce weapons at the former Audi car factory

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken announced plans to organize the production of weapons at the previously closed Audi car brand plant. This was announced on March 7 by the Belga agency on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken has announced plans to convert the recently closed Audi factory in Vorst into defense production. He plans to visit this place next week together with representatives of the defense industry," the agency reports.
The statement was made against the backdrop of a growing armament campaign in Europe and an increase in military spending.
On the same day, Belgium announced the supply of weapons to Ukraine for € 1 billion. This package includes €216 million for the purchase of artillery shells under the Czech artillery initiative, €200 million for air defense equipment under the German initiative, as well as supplies of Belgian F-16s, which were scheduled to be transferred at the end of 2024.
