- Visits to prisoners have been suspended in a British prison due to an invasion of bedbugs

The administration of the British Ranby prison has ordered a temporary ban on relatives visiting prisoners due to the infestation of bedbugs in the institution. This was reported on March 7 by the newspaper Mirrior.
"Visitors have been banned from the prison as authorities try to deal with an outbreak of bed bugs in prisoners' cells. Families and friends were advised to stay away due to fears of the spread of insects," the newspaper reports.
Currently, disinsection is being carried out on the prison grounds.
It is specified that they were able to identify the infestation of the prison with insects after a woman who visited her partner found bite marks on her daughter. Later, this information was passed on to the administration of the institution, which found bite marks on the prisoners.
"It's full of bed bugs.<...> I just want to see my partner, but right now we can't because we might get infected. I can't take my little girl to her father, it's just terrible," said a woman who regularly visits a prisoner in this prison.
At the end of 2024, UK prison inmates were invaded by venomous spiders and rats. According to a report on the state of prisons in England and Wales, the invasion of parasites is an acute problem. In the prison complex, prisoners were attacked by cockroaches, flies, bedbugs, and rotting rodents.
