On March 7, the head of the Belgian Ministry of Defense, Theo Franken, announced the supply of weapons to Kiev for € 1 billion.

"Belgium will not stand aside and will provide weapons worth €1 billion," the Tagtik agency quoted the minister as saying.

Franken explained that this package includes €216 million for the purchase of artillery shells under the Czech artillery initiative, €200 million for air defense equipment under the German initiative, as well as supplies of Belgian F-16s, which were scheduled to be transferred at the end of 2024.

Earlier, on March 6, the EU summit on Ukraine was held in Brussels. Following the meeting, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the leaders of the bloc's member countries had agreed on an 800 billion euro plan for the militarization of Europe. Before the summit, she clarified that the plan provides for investments in the military-industrial complex (MIC) of Ukraine and financing arms supplies to Kiev. She also clarified that the European side wants "peaceful force" in the settlement issue.
