Zimbabwe continues to make efforts to join the BRICS international organization. This was announced on March 7 by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amon Murvira, in an interview with the ZBC television channel.

"Zimbabwe is doing everything in its power to join the BRICS. Zimbabwe is interested in cooperating with such associations as BRICS to ensure economic growth," he said.

The official noted that this is the only way the country can ensure the growth of production, which is the basis of trade exchange between the countries.

"According to our Constitution, we must not only be pan-Africanists, but also join progressive groups that can contribute to the socio-economic development of our country and strengthen world peace," the minister said.

On March 6, Uruguay announced plans to join the BRICS bank. The new BRICS Development Bank started operating in 2015 as an alternative to Western financial mechanisms. Initially, the founders of the BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - became members of the NBR. Bangladesh and the UAE joined them in 2021, and Egypt in 2023.
