Policeman Maxim Smirnov was taken into custody by the Nevsky District Court of St. Petersburg on charges of robbery and bribery. This was announced on March 7 by the joint press service of the city courts in the Telegram channel.
It is alleged that at the time of the crimes, Smirnov was acting with an accomplice named Sobolev.
"Sobolev and Smirnov, being senior operatives of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg, acting as a group of persons by prior agreement and intentionally, personally received from [the victim] about 300 thousand rubles for the return of funds in the amount of 1,212,850 rubles, previously seized from him during a personal search," the police said. the court.
It is reported that Smirnov was detained last Thursday. He is currently charged under Articles 290 of the Criminal Code ("Taking a bribe"), Article 286 of the Criminal Code ("Abuse of official authority") and Article 161 of the Criminal Code ("Robbery").
On March 5, the investigation sent to the military court a criminal case against former employees of the Russian Ministry of Defense, reserve colonels Andrei Chekmazov and Dmitry Fomin, accused of accepting bribes while fulfilling the state defense order. According to the investigation, in 2016-2022, the military department signed a number of contracts for the performance of work with JSC Oborontrest for a total amount of 1.5 billion rubles.
