During the Great Patriotic War, female servicemen showed exceptional courage, bravery and dedication to military duty. The Russian Defense Ministry recalled this on March 8.

"Women bravely endured all the hardships and hardships of army and front—line life, not inferior to men in endurance and determination," the defense Ministry said.

It is noted that during the Great Patriotic War, many women served as snipers, scouts, signallers, medics, pilots and gunners, ensured the uninterrupted operation of rear units and formations, demonstrating exceptional courage and resilience.

"There was no military specialty that women did not master during the war. In total, 490,235 women were conscripted into military service from 1941 to 1945. And everywhere they showed themselves to be true patriots," the press service of the department informed.

The Defense Ministry also reported that 150,000 women were awarded orders and medals, and 96 became Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation for their courage, dedication and heroism on the battlefields.

On Saturday, March 8, Russia and the world celebrate the spring holiday — International Women's Day. Traditionally, Women's Day celebrates the achievements of women regardless of nationality, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences.
