Olympic boxing champion Albert Batyrgaziev won his 12th victory in a row and defended the titles of interim world champion according to the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Association (IBA) in the second featherweight division (up to 59 kg). Batyrgaziev's duel with Argentinean Neri Romero took place in Moscow on Friday, March 7.

The victory of the 26-year-old Russian champion was recognized by a unanimous decision of the referee.

At the same time, Romero, having lost to the Russian, interrupted his streak of 18 victories in professional boxing.

Batyrgaziev won the interim WBA belt in the summer of 2024, when he defeated Irishman Jono Carroll by technical knockout in the ninth round in Serpukhov, and he has held the IBA belt since December 2023 after defeating three-time Cuban world champion Lazaro Alvarez.

Earlier, on February 28, Russian boxer, European champion Sergey Kuzmin, after defeating Ghanaian fighter, WBA Africa and WBA Pan Africa champion Ebenezer Tette, told Izvestia that he had successfully completed 60-70% of what he wanted. He clarified that the fight was not initially aimed at knocking out the opponent, as new combinations were being worked out in it.
