In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a shepherd was suspected of stealing horses for further resale. The damage caused by the actions of the horse thief amounted to about 2 million rubles, the press service of the regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Friday, March 7.

The incident occurred in the Balakhtinsky district. The owner reported the theft of the animals to the police. According to the man, he missed 20 horses, which were looked after by his friend born in 1990. He is the one the farmer suspects of kidnapping.

Investigators found out that the victim and other horse owners from nearby settlements had agreed with the shepherd that the animals would graze in a common herd, which he would look after for money. The payment agreement was verbal.

The owners rarely came to see the pets. Then the previously untried Krasnoyan decided to sell other people's artiodactyls, and appropriate the money for himself. From May 2024 to February 2025, according to the attacker, he sold seven horses to Khakassia, and three more to other district farmers.

The suspect explained the loss of another 10 heads by various incidents: horses died from tick bites and poisoning, fell into deep washouts, and some were hit by a car.

A criminal case was opened against the shepherd. The defendant faces up to 10 years in prison, writes KrasnoyarskMedia news agency. He was given a preventive measure in the form of an obligation to appear.
