The European Union (EU), instead of contributing to the search for a peaceful settlement of the conflict over Ukraine, is deliberately fueling the escalation. On March 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the results of the EU summit in Brussels.

"The course of discussions and the results of the extraordinary EU summit dedicated to building up the EU's defense capabilities and its further policy towards Ukraine only confirm our assessments of the rapid transformation of this once successful trade and economic integration project into a militarized association obsessed with the idea of inflicting a 'strategic defeat' on our country," Zakharova said on the Foreign Ministry's website..

According to her, Brussels continues to play dangerous geopolitical games, ignoring the consequences of its decisions. Instead of looking for peaceful ways to resolve the conflict, the EU is declaring plans for an accelerated build-up of military and financial assistance to Kiev, Zakharova added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is confident that many countries that are well acquainted with the colonial practices of European "democracies" and the EU's attempts to revive them through dialogue with external partners from a position of strength will draw the necessary conclusions.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on March 6 that during the summit in Brussels, EU leaders agreed on an 800 billion euro plan for the militarization of Europe.
