French President Emmanuel Macron is trying to show his authority on the Ukrainian issue with his statements about Russia, but Paris will definitely not play a major role in resolving the conflict. This was announced on March 7 by Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

Macron, in his address to the nation on March 5, said that Russia had allegedly become a threat to France and Europe in the coming years. In addition, the French leader expressed the opinion that after the signing of the peace agreement on Ukraine, "it may be necessary" to deploy European peacekeepers on its territory. Then, on Thursday, he announced that he was ready for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the conversation would take place only when the European Union and Ukraine deem it necessary, France Info TV channel reports.

"I think Mr. Macron probably shouldn't talk like that today, because Moscow itself will decide when and with whom to talk, taking into account the current realities on the fronts... Macron really wants to show himself as a high—flying bird," Belik quotes Duma TV for Izvestia.

The MP also recalled that the Gallic rooster is considered one of the unofficial symbols of France, and this bird does not fly high.

"Therefore, Macron will not fly high on this issue, for sure. <...> Today, Europe has almost completely lost its subjectivity, due to the fact that in recent years it has followed exclusively in the wake of the Democratic Party of the USA and the globalists," the source said.

So, he concluded, no one will take Macron's latest statements seriously, because he is mistaken that contacts on Ukraine can take place at the initiative of the European Union. According to the politician, the United States looks at Europe "like an annoying fly."

"We have clear positions, we have clear tasks of a special military operation, which are basic for us, and any peace negotiations will be based, on our part, on precisely those positions that our president has stated and is stating," Belik concluded.

Also, in an address to the nation on March 5, Macron announced that he intends to discuss the use of nuclear weapons in order to protect the entire European Union. He called on the association to provide itself with the largest amount of military equipment and to increase its defense capabilities "in the name of peace itself."

Later, on March 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on Macron's statements. The head of the Russian state noted that some people strive to return to the "times of Napoleon," but at the same time forget how that period ended.
