On Friday and next weekend (March 7-9), traffic police officers will conduct massive and continuous checks on the roads, special attention will be paid to the prevention and suppression of cases of drunk driving. The regional departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate reported on the raids.

Preventive measures will be held in Moscow, Tomsk, Penza, Ivanovo, Chelyabinsk, Ulyanovsk, Samara, Tambov, Lipetsk regions, the Altai Republic, Sevastopol and other regions of the country.

On the eve of weekends and holidays, the State Traffic Inspectorate warns drivers against driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify motorists who have got behind the wheel drunk are carried out regularly on weekends by traffic police.

"We kindly ask citizens who see that the car is being driven by a driver in an inadequate condition to report this to the police. This call can save someone's life. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the propaganda department of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry, told Izvestia.

He stressed that driving while intoxicated is extremely dangerous and unacceptable in itself. In conditions of icy conditions and insufficient visibility, driving drunk does not leave even the slightest chance of a successful trip and endangers the lives of surrounding road users, Belan noted.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver faces criminal liability for these acts.

The day before, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported a fundamental disagreement with fines for exceeding the average speed. Information about the alleged work of the Russian Interior Ministry on the introduction of fines for exceeding the average speed on a road section has been disseminated in a number of Telegram channels and some media outlets.
