In Krasnoyarsk, ground squirrels came out of hibernation earlier than usual

Ground squirrels began to come out of hibernation on Tatyshev Island in Krasnoyarsk. The animals were noticed by local residents, the press service of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor reported on Friday, March 7.

In the current 2025, the animals woke up earlier than usual, writes KrasnoyarskMedia news agency. No bite cases have been reported yet.

The agency warned that now the ground squirrels are very hungry and can show aggression. You should not approach them and feed them with your hands. Animals can also be carriers of various diseases and parasites: rabies, tularemia, listeriosis and helminths.
