Europe wants to intensify the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said this on Friday, March 7, responding to a statement by Rudiger Lukassen, a representative of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, a member of the Bundestag defense committee, that the country needs nuclear weapons.

"It's amazing that people even say that out loud. Now, amid the containment of [US President Donald] It looks like Trump's doing it on purpose to make Trump look like an even more serious peacemaker against their background," the deputy said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Zhurova noted that representatives of European countries also wanted to reconcile Russia and Ukraine at various stages, and now they want to inflame this discord even more.

"They don't want to admit that they weren't very right all this time, supporting Ukraine. Now they want to make things worse with such threats," she concluded.

Earlier, Lucassen stated the need for the country to have its own nuclear weapons, as well as to introduce mandatory conscription of citizens, including women, for military service, RT reports.

In his opinion, in the absence of a nuclear umbrella from the United States, European countries will have to act independently. Lukassen also said that Germany needs to be turned into a country "with its own military and command structure" that will be able to provide nuclear deterrence within the framework of European autonomy.
