- The expert spoke about the interest of the American market in lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation.

American business is showing significant interest in lifting sanctions against Russia, despite the current geopolitical tensions. At the same time, even those companies that had previously left Russia are interested in returning, since the loss of one of the fastest growing markets in the world has dealt a serious blow to their economic performance, Maxim Chirkov, associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the State University of Economics, told Izvestia on March 7.
"Russia, being the fourth economy in the world, represents an important segment for international business. The withdrawal from the Russian market has led to significant losses for American companies, including job cuts and a deterioration in financial results," he explained.
According to him, the sanctions had a negative impact not only on access to the Russian market, but also on the entire Russian-speaking audience, including the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the former Soviet Union.
"American companies are losing market share in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and other countries where the Russian language remains an important tool for marketing and product promotion," Chirkov said.
In addition, the sanctions have led to a decrease in the competitiveness of American high-value-added goods in the post-Soviet space. This creates additional risks for American businesses, which are now losing ground to European and Asian competitors.
"The prospects for American companies to return to Russia are very positive. This will help them overtake their European competitors in those segments where they have traditionally competed. In normal competitive conditions, even fractions of percentages matter, and the loss of several percent of the global market is a serious blow. Returning to the Russian market will open up new opportunities for growth and compensation for losses," concluded Chirkov.
The Reuters news agency reported on March 3 that the White House is studying plans for a possible lifting of sanctions against Russia. According to sources, the agencies are currently preparing a proposal to lift restrictions on certain legal entities and individuals so that US representatives can discuss it with their Russian counterparts in the coming days as part of negotiations to improve diplomatic and economic relations.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled on March 4 that so far no one in the US administration has made official statements that Washington is going to lift sanctions against Moscow.
