Setting up a smartphone correctly after purchase is the key to its long and uninterrupted operation, Daria Tomilina, MegaFon's mobile equipment manager, told Izvestia on March 9. She gave basic recommendations that will make it possible to use the device as efficiently as possible and avoid many problems in the future.

According to her, the first thing to do is turn on the device and check the charging level. In the first few days of using the new gadget, it is recommended to drain the battery to 5%, and then put it on charge.

"However, it is important to prevent the charge level from falling below this value in order to avoid reducing battery capacity. After a week of use, try to keep the charge in the range of 40-80%, focusing on 50% as the optimal level. This approach will help extend the battery life of the phone and keep the battery healthy," the expert explained.

Next, after switching on, you need to follow the on-screen instructions. Choose a language, connect to Wi-Fi, and log in to your account (Google for Android or Apple ID for iPhone). This will allow you to synchronize data such as contacts, photos, and apps.

To transfer from an old device, you can use the built-in data transfer tools. Most modern smartphones offer data transfer functions using cable, Wi-Fi or cloud services, Tomilina noted.

"It is important to update the operating system of the new smartphone. Make sure that the latest version of the operating system (iOS, Android, etc.) is installed on it. This will take advantage of the latest optimizations, such as a more intuitive interface, new features, better performance, and increased security," said the manager.

The next step is to configure the device's security. A mobile phone stores a huge amount of personal information. To ensure its confidentiality, it is recommended to change the PIN code of your SIM card the first time you use it and ensure secure access to the home screen using a code, a graphic key or biometric data, if the smartphone supports such functions, the expert added.

"Now you can start installing applications. To do this, download the necessary applications from the official stores (Google Play or App Store). Don't forget to set up notifications and permissions for each application to avoid overloading the system," Tomilina reminded.

The expert recommended deleting unnecessary pre-installed applications. If an unwanted app cannot be deleted, you can always disable it and delete its updates to reduce the space it takes up on your phone.

"Don't forget to set up automatic data backup. This will save you in case of loss or damage to your device. Backups can be stored in cloud services such as Google Drive or iCloud to always have access to important information," said the manager.

The last step is to explore the functions of the new smartphone. Modern devices offer many useful options such as power saving mode, parental controls, gesture settings, and more. These functions will make it possible to maximize the use of the gadget's capabilities, Tomilina emphasized.

Earlier, on February 11, it was reported that in 2024, compared with the previous year, Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi became the most popular smartphone brands among Russians. At the same time, Chinese brands such as Infinix, TECNO and Google have become the leaders in sales growth, according to Avito experts.
