The European Union (EU) cannot afford to allocate funds for Ukraine's military operations without guaranteed financial assistance from the United States. This was announced on March 6 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with Radio Kossuth.

"If the United States stops now (financing military operations — ed.) <...>, how will the other 26 member states [of the European Union] have a chance to bring the conflict to an end?" he was quoted by the Reuters news agency.

According to him, the EU's desire to support Ukraine while increasing its own defense spending could "destroy Europe." The Prime Minister stressed that in a few weeks it would turn out that the European side would not have enough funds for its own defense.

In addition, Orban noted that there have always been disagreements between Hungary and the European Union, and the parties "have always somehow overcome them." However, according to him, this is no longer possible, because now these are "disagreements not between Hungary and 26 countries."

The Hungarian Prime minister clarified that misunderstandings are currently emerging between the EU and a group of states led by the United States that advocate peace.

"[EU leaders] are here to force 26 countries to develop a counter—strategy to the United States — not for the sake of establishing peace, but to convince Ukrainians and Europeans that it makes sense to continue the conflict," he added.

The White House officially confirmed the suspension of US military assistance to Ukraine, Reuters reported on March 4. The pause will last until American leader Donald Trump sees how the leaders of the Ukrainian side "demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace."

In turn, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said on March 6 that the plan for the militarization of Europe (ReArm EU) presented by her provides for investments in the military-industrial complex (MIC) of Ukraine and financing the supply of weapons to Kiev. She also clarified that the European side wants "peaceful force" in resolving the conflict.
