The creators of the Russian comedy "Darling, I won't call you Back" said on March 7 that they used unique technologies to film the film in order to immerse the viewer in a special atmosphere.

The plot of the film is based on the story of a successful advertiser, Dani, who finds himself in a coma and ends up in the hallway of the afterlife. He travels through his subconscious, never giving up hope of returning to life.

It is noted that more than 70% of the picture was shot using virtual reality. Thanks to VR technologies, it was possible to visualize the work of the subconscious mind and show the psyche of the protagonist.

"The hero finds himself in a situation where he has an internal conflict. "Dude, you're not going to be here right now," the possibility arises of your own flashing," said Nikita Efremov, the film's actor.

In the film, Dania moves through eight points of her subconscious, each of which refers to great architects and artists. For example, the airport is decorated in the Gaudi style, and the bar is decorated in the spirit of Van Gogh. These places were animated using the author's techniques.

"There was a character walking on the screen. Then, at a certain point, the actor knew when he was getting to the point. He came out at the actor, makeup was applied directly with strokes, as if he had come out of the picture," said Yuri Yarushnikov, founder of the eXtraOrdinary Virtual Production studio.

To shoot in the virtual world, a tracker is installed on the camera, after which the location is launched on the big screen. Each place resembles a game in which the viewer immerses himself and moves.

The perspective of the image changes depending on the movement of the camera. It took the artists almost five months to create all the locations and integrate them into the film.

"The neural network helped to do the pre-visualization, creating that bar, we could see in the neural network how it would look. What the reflective surfaces will look like, and only after that will we get up and create the scenery and content with the production designer," said Konstantin Korolev, art director of the eXtraOrdinary VirtualProduction studio.

Alexander Fomin, the screenwriter of the film "Darling, I won't call you back", stressed that the afterlife is a journey full of interesting and frightening moments. The airport in this context serves as a metaphor for waiting.

Those who have watched the film are already calling it a breakthrough for the industry.

"It's nice that we can already see modern technologies in Russian cinema," said one of the viewers.

On February 28, it was reported that the comedy "Darling, I won't call you back" became the winner in the Innovation nomination at the IV festival of artistic content of the ORIGINAL+ streaming platforms. Using Virtual Production allowed the creators not only to recreate a colorful and fantastic world on the screen, but also to embody the very idea of the film.
