- The Federation Council called Macron's appeal revenge for the cold reception from Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron's address to the people was his personal revenge on American leader Donald Trump for the cold reception in Washington. This opinion was expressed on March 7 by Alexey Pushkov, head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy.
The senator drew attention to the fact that Macron deliberately chose the day for the address when the American president addressed the US Congress. At the same time, in his speech, the French leader proclaimed his own political course on Ukraine, different from the American one.
"It really hurts him (Macron. I wanted to be the antithesis of the American president and declare myself as the leader of the Western opposition to Trump. It was also a personal revenge for the cool reception in Washington," Pushkov said in his Telegram channel.
According to the Russian politician, Macron's behavior hides a certain calculation: the French leader hopes for a repeat of the situation during Trump's first term, when the old Washington elites prevailed over the Republican president.
At the same time, as the senator noted, the French leader aspires to become the head of a united militaristic Europe based on Russophobia.
Macron said in his address to the nation on March 5 that he intends to discuss the use of nuclear weapons in order to protect the entire European Union (EU). He called on the EU to provide itself with the largest amount of military equipment and build up defense capabilities "for the sake of peace itself." According to him, Russia allegedly began to pose a threat to France and Europe. In addition, the French president expressed the opinion that after the signing of the peace agreement on Ukraine, it may be necessary to deploy European peacekeepers on its territory.
Later, on March 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on Macron's statements. The head of the Russian state noted that some people strive to return to the "times of Napoleon," but at the same time forget how that period ended.
