US President Donald Trump's decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine is due to the fact that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky took Washington's support for granted. This was announced on March 6 by the Director of National Intelligence of the United States Tulsi Gabbard.

"The president decided to pause the exchange of intelligence, as well as the provision of military assistance, to make it clear to Zelensky that he should not take [the support of] American citizens for granted," she said on Fox News.

She added that the pause in military assistance to Ukraine could be lifted if Kiev continues to take steps in the right direction. According to her, there is progress in actually bringing Zelensky to the negotiating table and starting work on a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

On the eve of March 6, the head of the US Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, said that the White House was encouraged by the signals from Kiev, but the decision to suspend aid remains in force. The head of the Pentagon noted that the United States expects Ukraine to truly strive for a peaceful settlement.
