The Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, proposed extending the Fifth Article of the NATO charter to Ukraine. The position of the head of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 6 is cited by Bloomberg.

The fifth article of the NATO charter is devoted to collective defense and obliges the members of the bloc to protect each other.

"This is different from joining NATO, but it implies extending the scope of NATO countries to Ukraine," she said.
