US President Donald Trump has threatened to fire members of the federal government who are "unreliable" and do not show up for work. He told reporters at the White House on March 6.

"I want the cabinet members to keep the good people. And those people who don't do their job well, who are unreliable, who don't show up for work, can be laid off," he said.

The American leader also noted that if cabinet members refuse to make cuts, then the head of the Department of State Efficiency (DOGE), Ilon Mask, will have to deal with this.

"We have a lot of people who don't work. We have a lot of people who probably don't even live, but receive checks," Trump said.

On the same day, the media reported on the beginning of mass layoffs of civil servants in the United States. According to NYT sources, the layoffs are aimed at reducing the number of employees on probation. Earlier, on February 28, the media reported that the United States was facing a drain of technical personnel from the government due to massive cuts initiated by the Department of State Efficiency (DOGE) of billionaire Elon Musk.
