The enclosure with the baby hyena Akela has been fully opened in the Moscow Zoo. This was announced on Thursday, March 6, by Svetlana Akulova, director of the Moscow zoo, in her Telegram channel.

According to her, experts have removed the last reed mats, and now the cub can see the entire enclosure of Gabriel the puma and visitors, writes RT.

Before that, Akela could be watched through small windows, and the aviary was hidden so that he could get used to the new environment.

Akela is a brown hyena cub. His parents, a male Hermes and a female Lada, appeared at the Moscow Zoo in the summer of 2023. kp.ru . Lada died after giving birth, so zoologists are taking care of the baby.

This is the first time that brown hyenas have been kept in Russian zoos in their entire history.

On March 3, Svetlana Akulova announced that the Moscow Zoo has set a world record for the number of animal species represented – there are 1,253 species in the zoo. This is a collection of rare, endangered and exotic animals from all over the world, the Moscow City News Agency notes.

In February, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that 300 new inhabitants from two dozen regions of Russia and other countries had been brought to the Moscow Zoo last year. Including three Malay cubs: Masha, Ray and Asterisk. The names for the animals were chosen by the townspeople as part of the Active Citizen project, writes NSN.
