The Swiss Parliament on Thursday, March 6, voted in support of a resolution that calls on the government to take a more decisive position on European security policy and explore opportunities for closer cooperation with the EU.

A statement on the parliament's website says that the resolution was adopted in parliament on Thursday with 115 votes in favor and 66 against, while three deputies abstained from voting.

The Parliament recommends that the Government explore further opportunities for cooperation with the EU in the field of security policy. At the same time, representatives of the center-left wing in the Council demanded that the Federal Council take a more decisive position against authoritarian tendencies.

Earlier in the day, the EU summit decided on the autonomy of financing military programs. In addition, EU leaders instructed the European Commission to propose additional sources of defense financing at the bloc level.

On March 6, MEP Thierry Mariani shared with Izvestia that the head of the European Commission would use Article 122 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union to implement the plan for the rearmament of Europe. According to the politician, the use of the article may be justified in case of emergency.
