Oleg Ozerov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, presented commemorative commemorative medals in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, former ghetto prisoners and prisoners of the besieged Leningrad living in Chisinau.

"The peoples of Russia and Moldova cherish the sacred memory of the military and labor feat of the victorious ancestors who liberated Europe from the horrors of the brown plague. The living veterans, home front workers, and "children of war" are living examples of incredible resilience, courage, and selfless patriotism," Ozerov said in the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.

He also added that it was precisely these qualities of the awardees, "which they carried through the whirlwinds of the hard times of war," that became moral guidelines for future generations. Ozerov stressed that at present they serve as an edification and warning for those "who today are trying to ignite the fire of a new great war."

"The vivid memories of our veterans who came face to face with the monstrous atrocities of the Nazis and their henchmen refute any attempts to put liberating heroes and destructive executioners on the same level," the diplomat said.

At the end of his speech, he drew attention to the fact that the preservation of historical truth has become a "reliable vaccine" that protects against the revival of those ideas and ideologies that led not only to the greatest tragedies of the past, but also to modern conflicts.

On February 28, it was reported that Russia was expecting all the leaders of the CSTO countries to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in Moscow. National military contingents are also expected to participate in the celebration. In 2025, May 9 marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the Soviet army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of the fighting, at 0:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed the act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
