Boat with Russians intercepted by US border guards off the coast of Puerto Rico

The US Border and Customs Service (USCBP) detained a five-meter boat off the coast of Puerto Rico, on board of which were two Russians and three residents of the Dominican Republic. This was announced on March 6 on the service's website.
"Our agents remain vigilant in securing our borders and complying with our country's immigration laws. This case highlights the ongoing challenges we face in preventing illegal entry and combating repeated immigration violations," said Reggie Johnson, chief Patrol Agent for the Remy sector.
It is specified that the detention of the vessel was carried out by border guards together with the US Coast Guard (USCG). After a biometric check, it turned out that one Dominican had previously been deported from the United States for committing a crime.
No details about the Russian citizens were reported. It is known that they were a man and a woman.
"The detained Russian citizens have been transferred to the Department of Investigations of the Ministry of Internal Security (HSI) for investigation and expulsion," the border guard service said.
On February 24, at least three people were killed and two injured after a boat capsized off the coast of New York. The cause of the capsizing could not be immediately determined. On February 23, the Minuto30 news portal reported a boat crash in the Panama area. It was noted that there were 21 people on board the boat, 19 of whom were migrants from Venezuela and Colombia. According to the preliminary report, the accident occurred due to strong waves caused by bad weather in the region.
