The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that the leaders of the European Union (EU) agreed on a plan for the militarization of Europe (ReArm EU) worth € 800 billion during the summit in Brussels. This was reported on Thursday, March 6, by Barron's magazine with reference to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"EU countries on Thursday gave the green light to plans to strengthen the bloc's defense capability as a bulwark against Russia, as President Donald Trump turns away from America's transatlantic partners," von der Leyen said.

It is specified that the plan for the rearmament of Europe was agreed upon by 27 EU leaders at talks in Brussels today.

According to the head of the European Commission, Europe is ready for a significant increase in defense spending. As part of the militarization plan, the EU will allocate about 800 billion euros, von der Leyen said.

Earlier in the day, the head of the European Commission said that ReArm EU provides for investments in the military-industrial complex (MIC) of Ukraine and financing arms supplies to Kiev. She also clarified that the European side wants "peaceful force" in the settlement issue. Von der Leyen stressed that in this regard, she is going to present a plan for rearmament during the summit.
