The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has decided to check the relics of saints in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra.

In Ukraine, a special commission will assess the condition and safety of the relics of saints in the near and far caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra. The relevant decision was published on the website of the country's Ministry of Culture on March 6.

"It is ordered: to form a commission to verify the presence and determine the historical and scientific value of the remains of saints.<...> The Commission, from March 05, 2025 to May 30, 2025, to verify the presence of the remains of saints in the tombs of the Near and Far caves of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, to determine the historical and scientific value of the remains of saints about which to draw up the relevant documents and prepare a certificate on the results of the work," reads the text of the document.

The text also contains an order to "make lists and attach to the certificate" those documents that fall under the definition of cultural property.

At the same time, information about the work of the commission will be classified as "with limited access".

On January 27, a court in Ukraine suspended the case of the eviction of monks from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The case on the eviction of the monastery was stopped until the full consideration of the case on the unilateral termination of the agreement on the use of the Lower Lavra. On January 4, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow could only welcome the profile report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with conclusions on the harassment of supporters of the Orthodox Canonical Church in Ukraine.
