The current Republican administration of the White House is trying to distance itself as much as possible from the previous team led by Joe Biden, including on the Ukrainian issue. This is the reason for US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement that the conflict in Ukraine is a proxy war between Washington and Moscow. Alexander Konkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, shared this opinion with Izvestia on March 6.

Rubio made the corresponding statement the day before. During an interview with Fox News, he stressed that this proxy war must be ended.

"This recognition is worth a lot, because everyone has been saying it for the past three years, and, strictly speaking, such a statement from such a high-ranking official of the United States administration is, of course, in a certain sense, even unexpected," Konkov commented.

On the other hand, he added, it is obvious that in this way representatives of the Republican Party are trying to distance themselves from the previous democratic administration of the White House in order not to be responsible for its policies. So, the Republicans are doing everything that is contrary to the actions of the Democrats.

"It is important that such words and rhetoric are followed by real actions. Let's see how much this will meet the expectations that are actively growing today," the source concluded.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, commenting on Rubio's statement, said that Russia agrees with his call to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. In addition, the Russian president's press secretary agreed with Rubio's statements that the Ukrainian conflict is a proxy war between Russia and the United States.
