The media learned about the request of the EU leaders to the EC and Ukraine to solve the problem of gas transit

The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries are asking the European Commission (EC), Ukraine and Slovakia to step up efforts to solve the problem of transit of Russian gas through the territory of the Ukrainian state. This was reported on March 6 by the Reuters news agency with reference to the draft final document of the emergency EU summit in Brussels.

It calls on the parties to step up efforts to "find effective solutions to the problem of gas transit," including through resumption.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 6 that the EU and Ukraine pose a threat to the energy security of his country and Slovakia. He called the EC's willingness to side with Kiev rather than the EU member states outrageous.

The day before, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the country would block the conclusion of the European Council following the EU summit if there was no plan to find ways to restore gas transit through Ukraine. He expressed the opinion that eventually Bratislava's demand would be taken into account.
