On March 26-27, the films "North Pole" and "Village of Widows" will be shown, which will become part of the cultural program of the International Arctic Forum (IAF) "The Arctic – the territory of Dialogue".

The forum, which will be held in Murmansk, is dedicated to topical issues of life and development of the Arctic region of Russia.

The film "The North Pole" by the Russian North film company is dedicated to the events during the confrontation between two superpowers: the USSR and the USA. It tells about the real facts of the 1960s, when the first Soviet nuclear submarine K-3 Leninsky Komsomol passed under the ice of the Arctic Ocean and surfaced near the North Pole. Starring: Andrey Merzlikin, Evgeny Mironov, Olga Lomonosova and Elena Sever. The film is directed by Alexander Kott.

The second film "Village of Widows" by the Mir television and Radio company, included in the forum program, is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The documentary tells about the feat of the inhabitants of the polar village of Varzuga, all the men of which went to the front during the war.

The plot of the film "North Pole" about human endurance admires the courage of Soviet submariners conquering the inaccessible Arctic. The film reveals the close connection between the past and the present, highlighting the special importance of the Arctic.

According to the general producer and actress of the film Elena Sever, the exploration of the Arctic and the conquest of the North Pole can be compared with space exploration in its importance.

"This is not just a story about the courage and breakthrough technologies of Soviet scientists, it is a story about people who were willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of an idea. Our film is a reminder that heroism is born not in orders, but in the heart. The Arctic was and still is of great geopolitical importance for the country, for its defense capability, and for its influence in the world," she said.

Director Alexander Kott noted that the film tells not only about the heroic past, but also about the present, when one decision can change the course of history.

It is worth noting that the creation of historical films requires a lot of money, and, fortunately, their creators do not always seek short-term benefits, but count on long-term demand. Such films are made in order to attract and preserve attention to a historical event, prevent its oblivion, foster feelings of patriotism and citizenship among the younger generation, and honor the memory of heroes of bygone eras.

The two films included in the IAF program vividly reflect the multifaceted portrait of our country, emphasizing the importance of preserving history for the future of Russia.
