Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Europe needs to create its own center of power on the continent in response to US President Donald Trump's decision to reduce its involvement in ensuring Europe's security. He told about it on March 6 in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper.

"The actions of the US president are a wake—up call for us to unite and create our own center of power," Fidan said in an interview.

He also added that Turkey would like to become part of any new European security architecture if NATO breaks up.

"Even if President Trump decides not to withdraw from Europe now, it is possible that in the future someone with similar views and political ideas may consider reducing America's contribution to European security," the Turkish Foreign minister said.

Earlier, on March 1, the chairman of the European Parliament's defense committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, said that Europe should strengthen its independence from the United States. She added that the investment bank of Europe could issue bonds so that she could invest in the extraction of rare earth metals and thus help Ukraine. However, for this, the European Union and Ukraine must sign a certain agreement.
