Border guards in Belarus have detained a Ukrainian who intended to travel to Russia to carry out extremist activities. This was announced on March 6 by the press service of the country's border committee in the Telegram channel.

"Polotsk border guards in the Verkhnedvinsky district detained a Ukrainian for violating the border from Latvia to Belarus. His accomplices have also been identified and detained," the statement said.

It clarifies that the Ukrainian is prohibited from entering Russia and Belarus as a person who harbored intentions to destabilize the socio-political situation of the countries in the interests of Ukraine.

At the moment, the attacker has been detained for violating the border. In addition, criminal cases have been initiated against his accomplices for organizing illegal migration. They face up to seven years in prison.

Earlier, on February 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting of the FSB board, instructed the agency to take additional measures to protect the state border of the Russian Federation and ensure the safety of citizens in the border territories. In addition to securing Russia's borders, Putin demanded that the FSB conduct a resolute and aggressive fight against extremism and terrorism.
