Russia is outraged by the French court's decision to sentence the attackers of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille to eight months of house arrest. This was announced on March 6 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"In this case, to be honest, it is simply impossible not to express surprise and indignation, because this is an unprecedented, I think, judicial verdict," she said at a briefing.

At the same time, she stressed that the French side regularly "makes attacks on Russian justice." Zakharova stressed that Moscow perceives Paris' "demonstrative connivance" towards the attackers as encouragement to commit such crimes.

Russia calls on France to take measures to ensure the proper security of Russian diplomatic institutions, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
