The doctor listed the most effective methods of contraception

The selection of contraception should take into account the characteristics of the woman's body and be coordinated with the doctor. On March 6, Nelly Krivoshchapova, an obstetrician–gynecologist at Invitro, told Izvestia about this.
When choosing a method of contraception, it is worth starting from the individual characteristics of the body, age, state of health, contraindications and lifestyle. The most effective of them, according to the expert, are intrauterine devices (IUDs), implants and combined oral contraceptives (COCs).
"Non-hormonal methods of contraception with the same high efficacy as IUD or COCs are rare. But there is a reliable alternative — condoms. These products reliably protect against pregnancy and infections, but their effectiveness strongly depends on the correct application," the doctor noted.
She also called sterilization a reliable method of contraception — tubal ligation in women and blocking of the vas deferens in men.
"Hormonal contraception is categorically contraindicated for those who have suffered thrombosis, stroke, heart attack, people with severe hypertension and diabetes with complications, as well as those who have breast cancer or liver problems. For example, cirrhosis," the expert said.
On February 25, Krivoshchapova told Izvestia about common myths about contraceptives. According to her, it is often believed that taking them leads to weight gain and causes cancer. Another myth, according to the expert, is that contraceptives lead to infertility. People are also mistaken when they claim that condoms are an ineffective method of contraception, Krivoshchapova added.
