Kallas stated the difficulties of the EU due to Hungary's blocking of measures on Ukraine

The European Union (EU) is experiencing more and more difficulties due to the fact that Hungary is blocking the association's aid decisions Ukraine. This was stated on March 6 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, during a conversation with journalists on the eve of the EU summit.

"This is becoming more and more difficult, and therefore we have a new initiative to create a coalition of those who want to [help Ukraine] so that one country cannot block all the others," she said.

At the same time, Kallas stressed that the EU is still striving to achieve unity among the 27 member states of the association.

The newspaper Politico reported on March 5 that the EU fears href="https://iz.ru/1849057/2025-03-05/smi-uznali-ob-opaseniah-es-sryva-sammita-po-ukraine-iz-za-pozicii-vengrii " target="_blank">disruption of the summit on Ukraine due to Hungary. According to the draft of the prepared final statement, the EU is obliged to "continue to provide Ukraine with regular and predictable financial assistance." According to the newspaper's sources, Hungary expressed disagreement on this issue.

According to Bloomberg, the EU is looking for a way to circumvent Budapest's objections. The media clarified that the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, would try to find a consensus with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during the summit.
