Zimbabwe has submitted an application to the BRICS and is awaiting a decision from the association. This was announced on March 6 by the country's Foreign Minister, Amon Murvira, following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We are making sure that the country meets all the requirements of the BRICS. Of course, we are submitting our application and waiting for a response," Murvira said.

He also noted that Zimbabwe has always advocated a peaceful settlement of the conflict on Ukraine.

"We oppose any movement towards escalation," Murvira stressed.

Earlier, on February 27, Brazilian Foreign Minister Joel Sampaio's official representative stated that the issue of BRICS expansion is now is not on the agenda of the Brazilian presidency.

BRICS is an interstate association of countries. On the eve of the Kazan summit in 2024, 35 applications were received to join the association. From January 1, 2025 to Bolivia, Belarus, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan joined as partners.
